Mrs. Phillipp has been teaching junior high math here at SSPP for the past 18 years. She also taught for two years in the Archdiocese of Chicago and six years at River Trails School District in Mt. Prospect, IL. After taking a hiatus from teaching to be at home with her children, she returned to teaching in 2007 and has made SSPP her home ever since. Not only does Mary-Catherine teach here, she is a parishioner and her children are alumni.
Mary-Catherine graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision. Mary-Catherine and her husband are the proud parents of three sons.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in the green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23
Mary-Catherine’s teaching philosophy centers around the importance of creating respect within the classroom and with all aspects of the learning process. Her belief that every student has gifts and abilities motivates her to ensure that every one of her students achieves success. Appreciating her students’ perspectives academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually helps the student to feel understood, and that is important to Mary-Catherine.
