Pat became interested in teaching when she began volunteering at Krejci Academy, a private therapeutic day school that is part of Little Friends, Inc., when she was in eighth grade. Mrs. Guess continued volunteering and working as an aide at Krejci during the summers throughout high school and college.
Pat attended Valparaiso University and graduated with a degree in elementary education with an endorsement in special education. Mrs. Guess attended Olivet Nazarene University for graduate school and is a certified reading specialist and learning behavior specialist.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Mrs. Guess returned to Krejci Academy, where she worked with students with learning, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Mrs. Guess remained at Krejci for fifteen years, but always had a dream of teaching in a Catholic school.
In 1997, her dream was realized when Saints Peter and Paul had an opening in the Project Discover program. Pat joined the staff at Saints Peter and Paul School, where as a child she had attended religious education classes and had received the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. She still remembers helping her mother, who was a religious education instructor, make rosaries with her class in Room 12. Mrs. Guess feels blessed to once again be a part of the Saints Peter and Paul family.
“So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Cor 13:13
“I believe in the importance of teamwork between home and school. It is by this collaboration that students have their greatest opportunity to develop to their full potential. My goal is to have a nurturing and positive classroom that supports a growth mindset and encourages students to develop the skills and strategies they need to become more self-confident and love learning.”
