Mrs. Schur grew up in Merrillville, Indiana and practically lived in the library across the street from her house. This is where she developed her passionate love of reading. She started working in the library at age 14 shelving books, continued at the library through high school and college. After graduating from college, Mrs. Schur became the childrens’ librarian at a local branch.
Mrs. Schur graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. That is where she met her husband, Dave. They live in Naperville and have two adult daughters, who both graduated from Saints Peter and Paul School. Mrs. Schur went on to earn a Master’s of Science degree in Educational Media from Nova Southeastern University.
Mrs. Schur has 30 years of teaching experience. Twenty-five of those years she has spent serving Saints Peter and Paul School. For the first 16 years, Mrs. Schur was the librarian, for several years overseeing libraries in both the elementary and junior high buildings. When budget cuts were made and the library staff reduced, Mrs. Schur was asked to teach fourth grade. Over the past 11 years she has taught Reading, Language Arts, Religion, and Social Studies. Mrs. Schur and her family have been parishioners of Saints Peter and Paul Parish for 19 years.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
All children are unique in their interests, abilities, and backgrounds. As a teacher, you must treat them as the individuals that they are, accepting and encouraging their differing levels of success. One of the wonderful aspects of teaching is seeing the expression on a child’s face when the lightbulb goes on, and he or she suddenly understands.
