Student services (also known as the Project Discover program) offers assistance to students who may need extra support with academic learning goals. Members of the student services team provides direct service to students. Our student services coordinator is also the liaison between Saints Peter and Paul and the Naperville Community Unit School District 203 special education services team. Student services staff work closely with classroom teachers to help students function to their full potential in the classroom. They also meet with teachers to find engaging ways to meet their students needs. Additional support through Project Discover is determined via a variety of a student's achievement test scores, report card grades, and teacher recommendation. As specified in learning plans and accommodation plans, students at all grade levels also are able to receive test support and accommodations.
Parents will be contacted by their homeroom teacher to discuss extra supports if teachers beleive a student is in need of an additional intervention. If appropriate academic gains are not being made, it may be necessary to take the next step and determine whether the child’s progress is being impeded by another factor or disability. This request can surface from either school personnel or the child’s parents. However, the Student Services Coordinator is the only one authorized to initiate and coordinate the necessary paperwork with District 203. Testing for identifying speech/language difficulties or a learning disability is administered by District 203 regardless if the family resides outside of District 203 boundaries. District 203 is responsible for providing assistance and recommendations for our students, however the only direct service provided is in the area of speech/language. Occupational therapy services are available at the school during the school day through an outside contractor. This contractor typically accepts most major insurance plans.
We believe all students deserve individualized attention in a safe learning environment where high expectations are established and students are supported to become the "best version of themselves." SSPP staff believes that all students deserve an engaging curriculum, student centered instruction, and extra help as needed in order to progress along the pathway to their piritual, personal, and educational goals aligned with our students’ individual developmental needs.
Saints Peter and Paul provides Tier 1 services to all students using a Growth Mindset approach. All services will be data driven using God's Kingdom Virtues and interactive secondary programs such as Kagan Strategies. Students can also work on key strategies to help them learn and grow successfully in their education such as confidence, grit, and perseverance. Lunch groups can be scheduled to support realtionship building or one on one conversation. Counseling will always be open to anyone in need of extra help academically or emotionally. In addition to the school counselor, our administrative team and entire faculty and staff are present to support the needs of our students on a variety of levels daily.
